The Kurdish team is translating OpenOffice.org with Rosetta. That is fine, and hopefully there will be a Kurdish translation in Dapper. But we want to have a Kurdish OpenOffice.org in other distribution and in Windows as well. So we must send our translation to upstream. Here the trouble starts.
We will describe our problems here. First of all the link to all the Kurdish translation files mentioned on this page: http://www.ferheng.org/data/po
Rosetta uses 10 or 11 po-templates with names like ooo-writer, ooo-draw and so on. These do *not* correspond to the po-files created using the –multifile=toplevel option with the translate-toolkit. Those are 36 and they are differently organized. This rules out the use of this option.
The only possible way seems to be the creation of one large po-file using the –multifile=onefile option and then to merge the messages from the po-files using msgmerge. We do this by
oo2po -P --multifile=onefile en-US.sdf pot
After that we have one big .pot-file in the directory /pot. Now we make a po-file for the Kurdish translations from that:
mv en-US.pot ku.po
Now we can start to merge the translations from the ooo-fooname templates using msgmerge
msgmerge -N ooo-writer.po ku.po -o ku1.po msgmerge -N ooo-base.po ku1.po -o ku2.po
and so on. We just merged some of the po-files to demonstrate the procedure.
This is where the trouble starts. A lot of error messages appear, reading
